Eligibility
The Westhaven Swim Team is a summer-only (May – June) recreational swim team that competes against other neighborhood, rec, and country club teams. Any Westhaven resident or Westhaven Golf Club member between the ages of 4 - 18 on June 1st is eligible to swim on the team. Because we use the Westhaven Facilities, you must be in good standing with the Foundation to participate on the team. For the 2021 season, we will have participant limitations. Registration will be first come first serve.
We have swimmers of all abilities, but children must be able to swim 1/2 the length of the pool to be on the team. If swimmers are not able after the first week of practice, the coaches will recommend that they spend the year in lessons to prepare for next year.
Parents of young swimmers, you'll be amazed by what your children learn in the month they are on the team. By the end of the season, most swimmers will be able to swim full 25 yards freestyle and backstroke unassisted without touching the lane lines and/or the walls. By age 7 some children will be learning to swim breaststroke and butterfly legally.
Volunteer
Other than the coaches, the team is run 100% with volunteers. Each family is responsible for volunteering to work at least 2 volunteer shifts per season with a per family point requirement of 50 points. Volunteer jobs include lane timers, stroke and turn officials, clerk of course workers, scorekeepers, etc. We have made the signup process for volunteer jobs during the season as easy as possible. Since a swim meet is run by parent volunteers from each swim team, volunteer participation is vital to run each swim meet. To learn more about volunteering, pop over here.
The League
The Westhaven Swim Team is part of the Williamson County Swim League (WCSL). The WCSL is a summer swim league composed of community, subdivision, and country club swim teams in the Williamson, Rutherford, and Maury Counties. Teams compete every week throughout the month of June. The County Championship meet is held at the end of the season with swimmers competing from each team at the Brentwood Indoor Sports Complex. *This year's meet is still TBD if it will be held virtual or in-person.
The WCSL was formed to create a friendly atmosphere for the benefit and personal satisfaction of our children. The league strives to offer an opportunity for children and young people to challenge themselves, to learn and think in a positive manner, to be part of a team and enjoy the experience of friendly competition and good sportsmanship.
